Piltown got the win at home after an entertaining clash on the back field in Piltown. The wind was blowing towards the Club house end, and the home side were shooting that way also in the first half. But right from the whistle Kilmacow took the lead through half forward Libby Lowe Murphy, this was followed soon after by the first of the match for Afton Grace from a free. A good start for the away side, but then Piltown took advantage of the breeze as two long booming frees from Danielle OBrien ended up with Kaleigh OShea and Sophie Long to level the game. Leanne Purcell put the away side back in the lead after 7 minutes.
It was a tough game throughout the 60mins , with the home side being awarded a lot of frees, but the girls , especially the younger girls handled the challenges well and were playing well at the same time. One of those younger girls was Kate Anthony , playing at wing forward and always full of running, and she was rewarded with a fine point after 16 minutes. Aine Doyle struck two frees over the bar , and one from play to keep the scores coming. Then Afton Grace took over and scored 1-03 in the last 5 minutes to put Kilmacow three points up, just at the stroke of 30 minutes. But then an opportunistic goal from Heather Phelan, as she batted down a poor puck out, and she raced onto her own pass, she got the ball in hand and rifled it past Jessica Grant in goal.

Back out for the second half and another quick start from Kilmacow, another pointed free from the half way line from Leanne Purcell , and then Afton Grace stood over a free on the 21, and we all knew what she was going to do, and she did it. A bullet of a free that flew past about 15 players from both sides standing around the goal, and into the net. Aine Doyle then clicked up a gear , and starting to impose herself on the game, 3 points added to her tally, with another from Sophie Long in there also and the game was simmering. The challenges were rough and tough, and Referee Flynn had his hands full. After 18 minutes of the second half Piltown were trailing by three points, and you might wonder could they come back? But the fight never left them, and in the space of two minutes the Piltown girls scored two goals to completely turn the game around. The first came from a goalmouth scramble, a good save from Grant in the Kilmacow goal, and as the ball rolled around the goal, Heather Phelan launched herself at it and touched the ball over the line while lying down.
And for the quick fire second, Phelan was the creator this time , as she struck a delicious floated ball from a position wide on the left wing , the sliothar bounced and deceived the defence, but not Sophie Long and Sophie struck it to the net. What a turnaround. Six minutes left and we led by 6 points. Kilmacows Grace wasnt finished as she pointed a free and then goaled from a free to bring it back to a two point lead as we headed into injury time. Aine Doyles calm free taking put another point between the sides , before Kate Anthony ran onto a pass from half way, raced down the pitch and put the ball over the bar to seal the victory.
A great performance from all the girls involved, as they were seriously tested by Kilmacow , and had to battle back and fight for the win.
