The visitors took the points on a beautiful sunny, then dark, then sunny again evening on the back pitch in Piltown.
The solar eclipse took all the headlines throughout the week, but such was the entertainment on view , the astral phenomenon was barely noticed.
Ref Willie Kearney threw in the ball , and the game took off, with a goal for the away side on the fourth minute from wing forward Alice Kavanagh as she scored after a rebound from close range. Piltowns Ellie Lou Quirke replied with two well struck frees after 11 minutes. It was a competitive start , and we wouldnt have thought that those were to be the only scores for the home side as they played towards the Club house end. Dicksboro werent finished though, as their full forward Caoimhe Gannon got a couple of goals after great build up from Emma Everard and Alice Kavanagh. The city side were clinical up front, and when Piltown didnt clear their lines, they were punished.
HALF TIME - PILTOWN 0 -02 DICKSBORO 4-02
Back out for the second half , and such was the effect of the eclipse that ref Kearney nearly asked for the lights to be turned on. But it didnt bother the 30 girls on the pitch, Piltown started brightly, as they got the next 3 scores, with a goal from Aoibhinn Stuart followed up by a point from Lucie Little to bring the home side right back into it, but again Caoimhe Gannon kept her side ahead with two excellently struck 45s. Lucie Little got the ball on the half way , and headed for goal via the left wing beating players along the way, she then struck towards goal, and it nestled in the net somehow via deflections and dodgy bounces to leave Piltown training by two goals with 11 minutes to play. The away side were tight though, and try as they might, the Piltown girls couldnt get the scores needed. A great effort by both sides on a very warm evening.
